15 Coquitlam nurses to split $256K jackpot — with a group dinner first

A group of nurses from Coquitlam swiftly transformed a "happy mistake" into a significant payment and an upcoming special event.

Adriana Miklosikova claims that after recently winning more than $256,000 from the Lotto Max draw held on June 14, she and her 14 coworkers will treat themselves to a lovely dinner.

The local, however, said that when she initially read the number, she believed the group had only received three figures rather than six.

In a press release from the BC Lottery Corporation, Miklosikova explains, "I was at home, making my breakfast after finishing my workout" (BCLC).

"I assumed the ticket said $256 after scanning it, but then I saw the comma. On the BCLC Lotto! app, I scanned it a few more times before realising it was worth $256,000."

In actuality, the sum was exact—$256,051.80.
According to Miklosikova, for the previous two years, her coworkers had been pooling money to play the lottery together.

She naturally thinks her efforts have finally paid off.

"I can't believe I won! With the additional funds, we'll all be able to organise something exceptional."

The group's winning ticket, according to Lotto Max, was purchased in Surrey and was the secondary prize to the $50 million jackpot up for grabs that evening.

These were the winning numbers:
  • 11, 17, 18, 25, 36, 41, 50 and 34 (bonus)
The group lotto triumph, according to BCLC, also serves as a reminder to take all essential precautions to prevent miscommunications when playing with more than one person.

The firm, like Miklosikova, advises appointing a "captain" to organise finances for the ticket and keep tabs on outcomes and group earnings.

According to the BCLC's announcement, "the group captain should put their name on the front or back of the ticket along with the phrase 'In Trust' to indicate the ticket belongs to a group when purchased in a retail outlet.

Avoiding confusion if your group wins requires keeping accurate records of who participates in each draw and knowing what occurs if a group member does not contribute for a draw.

If the prize exceeds $2,000.00, a group must sign an agreement document.
